Three Henlopen teams reach field hockey final four
November 14, 2012

Delmar and Sussex Tech battled through 60 minutes of state tournament field hockey Nov. 13 on Cape’s turf field two in an evenly played, fast-paced game that could have gone either way.

Each team had 10 shots on goal with six penalty corners.

The game was tied 1-1 deep into the second half, when Delmar freshman Ashley Arter sent home a pass from Amy Wilson with 8:57 remaining for the 2-1 game winner, sending the Wildcats into the semifinals, where they will face Polytech, a 2-0 winner over Wilmington Christian.

Delmar improved to 16-1 on the season, while the Ravens closed out the 2012 campaign 13-4.

Sara Ellis cranked home a goal with 5:32 left in the first half to give the Wildcats the lead. An apparent goal by Sussex Tech early in the game was disallowed when the official ruled the ball had been kicked across the goal line.

Melissa Joseph scored for the Ravens at 3:15 into the second half, with Darian Scott getting the assist.
