Lewes Public Library's Board of Commissioners recently honored Dr. Eric Hale by naming him a director emeritus. Library Commission President Beckie Healey said the designation recognizes Hale's 20 years of service as a library commissioner. Hale served on the board during the addition of the two wings to the original structure and was a long-term member of the Book Selection Committee. He recently completed his fourth five-year term and decided to step aside.
Members of the library board selected Chanta Wilkinson as the board's newest member, taking the position vacated by Hale.
"I always enjoyed being on the library board as a way of giving back to the community," said Hale. "It was also fun serving on the Book Selection Committee."
In appreciation of his service, Healey presented Hale with a framed photograph of one of the lighthouses near the point of Cape Henlopen. The photograph won Betty Masters an award in this year's photo contest sponsored by Lewes Public Library.
Hale joins Anna Jane Mercer and Dennis Forney as directors emeritus.
