Robert K. Franks, electrical engineer

Robert K. Franks, 83, of Ocean View, passed away Monday July 7, 2014, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.

Robert was born in Belleville, Pa., the son of the late Oscar and Alice Franks. He graduated from Belleville High and proudly joined the U.S. Navy in 1948. After four years of service he went to Penn State University, joined Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity, graduated, married his sweetheart Dorothy Stone and worked as an electrical engineer. During his career he worked for Burroughs, Honeywell and ITTRI in Annapolis, Md. After retiring he lived in the West Virginia mountains before moving to Ocean View in 2010.

He was a great fan of Penn State football, and a sailing and boating enthusiast. Twice he and his wife sailed down the Intracoastal Waterway to Florida and eventually spent the winter in the Bahamas. He was a former member of the Sailing Club of the Chesapeake.

Robert is survived his loving wife of 58 years, Dorothy (Stone) Franks; a son, Thomas S. Franks of Ranson, W.Va., and a son, Kirk Franks of Salisbury, Md. He is also survived by seven grandchildren.

A Celebration of Life will be held will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, July 12, at Community Lutheran Church, 3807 Omar Road, Frankford. A second service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, July 23, at St. Martins Lutheran Church at Spa Road and Hilltop Lane in Annapolis, Md. Interment will be at St. John’s Cemetery, Belleville, Pa., in August. Date and time to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Community Lutheran Church in Frankford.
