Charles J. Bauer, retired Army colonel

Services with full military honors will be held for Charles J. Bauer (Col. USA Ret.) Wednesday, Dec. 10, at 11 a.m., at the Fort Myer Old Post Chapel. Col. Bauer passed away June 4, 2014, at 6 a.m. Interment will follow immediately in Arlington National Cemetery.

Col. Bauer served 33 years in the Army and was awarded the Order of the Purple Heart three times for wounds in combat; the Distinguished Flying Cross; the Bronze Star with five Oak Leaf Clusters and the Silver Star for heroism in Vietnam. He was a master parachutist serving with the 82nd and 101st Airborne divisions.

After his military career, he founded, along with son Charles Jr., a successful microfilm and imaging service bureau in the Washington, D.C. area. Prior to retirement he served as commander in the Panama Canal Zone and representing U.S. military interests in Bogota, Colombia.

Guests without military identification also should allow time prior to the service to access Fort Myer from Washington Boulevard at the southwest edge of Fort Myer. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.

The family suggests, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Salvation Army; Lewes Fire and Rescue, P.O. Box 225, Lewes, DE 19958, or Beebe Home Care, 20232 Ennis Road, Georgetown, DE 19947.
