Betty C. Lawson, Lewes retiree

Betty C. Lawson, 86, of Lewes, passed away peacefully Sunday, Nov. 9, 2014.

She was born in Monrat, Va., to the late John and Nora Perry. Betty attended Gossen Mines Elementary and Woodlawn High School in Galax, Va. She moved to Delaware in 1947, where she was a packer for Avon; she then was employed by W.T. Grant as a head cashier and then by Westvaco as a quality control inspector. In 1972 she opened and operated Cremee Freeze in Cecilton, Md. In 1975 she retired to Lewes.

Betty is survived by her husband of 69 years, James Lawson; four children, Patricia Shannon (Richard) of Smyna, Alice Manzie of Jamesville, N.C., James Lawson (Lilly) of Fairdale, Ky., and John Lawson (Kathi) of Richmond, Texas; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She is also predeceased by her sister, Nell-Jo; and her brother, Chuck.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, at McCrery & Harra Funeral Homes, 3710 Kirkwood Hwy. (at Duncan Road), Wilmington, with burial at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear.
