Janie B. Norwood, Nanticoke matriarch

Janie Bernice Norwood, 96, of Millsboro, departed this life Thursday, Nov. 13, 2014.

Mrs. Norwood was born in Millsboro, April 16, 1918, to the late Fred and Fannie Johnson Harmon. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her husband, Richard L. Norwood; a daughter, Vianna “Sweetie” Mosley; two sons, Frederick “Bozzie” Norwood Sr. and James “Tee” Norwood; two brothers, Oscar Harmon and Oliver Johnson; two sisters, Jeanette Harmon and Ellen V. Clark; and three grandchildren, Daryll N. Norwood, Suprenia Griffith and Frederick L. Norwood Jr.

Janie was a member of the Indian Mission United Methodist Church, Nanticoke Indian Tribe, a life member of the Nanticoke Indian Association Inc., and life member of the Indian River VFC Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading, watching television, family dinners, and spending time with her family and friends.

She is survived by her three daughters, Janice B. Davis, Marlene A. Pritchett and Leolga T. Wright (Dallas), all of Millsboro. She is also survived by 16 grandchildren; a host of great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A viewing will be held Tuesday, Nov. 18, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St., Millsboro. The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Nov. 19, at 1 p.m., at Indian Mission United Methodist Church, 22701 Indian Mission Road, Harbeson. Interment will follow in the adjoining church cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Mrs. Norwood’s memory to the Oak Orchard Boys and Girls Club, 31550 Oak Orchard Road, Millsboro, DE 19966.
