Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge reaches out to community

January 1, 2014

Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540 continues to have outstretched arms for the community and the needs of neighbors.

Exalted Ruler Eileen Loftus stated, “This Elks Lodge has had a long tradition of preparing food baskets for the families in need and assisting these families to provide Christmas gifts for their children, and we want to continue with this worthy cause. Our motto is Elks care and Elks share!"

In keeping with the Elks' commitment to serving the community, the lodge has undertaken a variety of activities over the last year. They have hosted several veterans luncheons, conducted youth sctivities, including a hoop shoot and soccer shoot competitions, and more.

Soon they will be looking for eligible children who desire to attend Elks Camp Barrett located near Annapolis, Md.  Elks Camp Barrett is an American Camping Association accredited camp, designed to help young people develop problem solving skills and build self-confidence. It is operated by the Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia Elks Association.

Campers, sponsored by local Elks lodges, attend at no expense to their family. While most children sponsored by the lodge are referred to the lodge, any youth between the ages of 9 and 13 (or completed third grade) is eligible.

Elks invest in their communities through programs that help children grow up healthy and drug-free, by undertaking projects that address unmet need, and by honoring the service and sacrifice of veterans.
