Weeks breaks record as Cape beats Tech

Cape sophomore Molly Weeks swam a time of 55.44 to break a school record in the 100 freestyle as the Lady Vikings defeated Sussex Tech 108-62 to remain undefeated. The boys downed the Ravens 95-75 to move to 5-2 on the season.

"It felt great to beat a record that's been on the book for so long," said Weeks. "I just happy to have contributed to the team's win. Tech is a good team and it's always a tough meet."

The 100 freestyle record was last set by Colleen Cannatelli at 56.11 in 2009.

With the fans screaming Cape junior Ricky Brokaw came back from nearly two body lengths in the final 25 yards to capture the 200 freestyle sprint with a time of 2:09.46.

"I knew I was catching up to him during the last 50 yards," said Brokaw. " When I looked up to breathe I could see our coaches jumping around so I knew I was getting close. Then I just kept my head down and swam as fast as I could."

Each of the Vikings teams took wins in 10 of the 11 events in the meet.

The Vikings travel to Caesar Rodney Tuesday, Jan. 20 for a conference match up with the Riders.
