Sara I. Weiss, devout Catholic

Sara I. Weiss, 78, of Lewes, passed away Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at her home. She was born March 24, 1936, in Philadelphia, Pa., daughter of the late Frank and Marie (Gallagher) Marzin.

Mrs. Weiss was raised in the city of Philadelphia where she graduated in 1953 from Little Flower Catholic High School. After high school Mrs. Weiss worked for several local banks in the Philadelphia area before wedding the love of her life, Gerald in 1956. Shortly thereafter the two would begin a life together, raising six beautiful children. Mrs. Weiss was a dedicated homemaker and a wonderful cook.

She enjoyed crocheting, knitting and created blankets for each and every child, grandchild and great-grandchild. Mrs. Weiss was a devout Catholic who professed her faith by coordinating the Sacristan's at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Weiss was preceded in death by her grandson, Brendan Weiss; a sister, Rosemary DiAntonio; and a brother, Norbert "Bud" Marzin. She is survived by her loving husband of 58 years, Gerald J. Weiss; two daughters, Sally Ann Tennyson and her husband Walter of Westminster, Md., and Joanne M. Weiss and her husband Kent Ackley of Portland, Maine; four sons, Gerald J. Weiss Jr. and his wife Maureen of Gilbertsville, Pa., Mark T. Weiss and his wife Sharon of Mullica Hill, N.J., Paul W. Weiss and his wife Lisa of Levittown, Pa., and Brian M. Weiss and his wife Robyn of Jacksonville, Fla.; 17 grandchildren: Jessica McKelvey; Matthew McKelvey and his wife Maggie; Julia Tennyson; Nathan Tennyson; Kristine Tennyson; Gerald Weiss III; Cory Weiss and his wife Jessica; Patrick Weiss; Leila Weiss; Tyler Weiss; LeeAnn Flanagan; Micky Weiss and his wife Samantha; Krista Weiss; Lauren Weiss; Amanda Weiss; Jonathan Weiss; Jordan Weiss; four great-grandchildren, Ava; Michael; Tyler and MJ; five sisters, Helen Morin of Newtown, Pa., Joan Sandt of Philadelphia, Mary Marzin of Sellersville, Pa., Elinor Boylan of Middletown, and Carol Grugan of Glenn Mills, Pa.; and one brother, Francis Marzin of Mullica Hill.

A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Tuesday, Jan. 20, at 11 a.m., at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 21, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 32112 Vines Creek Road, Dagsboro. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the St. Edmond Catholic Church Building Fund.
