VFW high school patriotic art contest deadline set March 31

The VFW Ladies Auxiliary has a Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest for high school students in grades 9, 10, 11, and 12, whether in public, private, parochial or home schools. Deadline for submissions is Tuesday, March 31.

The top national award is a $10,000 scholarship plus two nights' lodging at the VFW National Convention in Pittsburgh. Other top prizes are $5,000, $2,500, $1,500, and $500 for fifth to eighth place. The winning entry will also appear on the cover of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary magazine, which is mailed to 450,000 members. Other top winners will appear in the magazine. Prizes are also awarded at the local and state levels, and state winners' artwork will be displayed at the Delaware VFW Convention in June.

Art must be on paper or canvas. Watercolor, pencil, pastel, charcoal, tempera, crayon, acrylic, pen-and-ink or oil may be used. Digital art is not accepted. Artwork cannot be framed. Canvas entries should be on stretcher frames, and other entries must be matted on white. The art should be no smaller than 8-by-10-inches nor larger than 18-by-24-inches. Artwork must be sponsored by a VFW Ladies Auxiliary, done during the current school year and signed by a teacher. Each student may submit only one entry.
