Daniel 'Jay' Zacharias, world traveler
Daniel J. "Jay" Zacharias, 64, of Harbeson, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at his home. Jay was born Sunday, April 5, 1950, in Salisbury, Md., son of the late Otto D. and Frances (Wood) Zacharias.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Z. Johnston; and brother-in-law, C. C. "Sonny" Johnston.
Jay is survived by his sister Susan Z. Calloway and her husband Robert E.; his brother, John R. Zacharias and his wife Darlene; one niece; four nephews; many other relatives and a host of many great friends.
Jay was an avid traveler who loved Egyptian history and had traveled to Egypt three times, where he went inside two of the great pyramids. Also in his travels he visited Great Britain where he got lost on the moors. While visiting Florence and Rome, Italy he fell in love with Renaissance Art. Jay was a fountain of information on several subjects, especially history, and could always turn to his extensive library on the history of Egypt, England and Italy as well as many videos of his visits to Europe.
He will be sorely missed by his family and many friends.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 2, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, Second Street, Lewes. Interment will be private at St. George's Episcopal Church Cemetery.
