George Joseph Harker, proud veteran

George Joseph Harker, 71, of Lewes, passed away Friday, June 5, 2015, at his home. He was born June 26, 1943, in Baltimore, Md., son of the late Filmore and Margaret (Williams) Harker.

Mr. Harker was a proud U.S. Air Force veteran. He was a charitable individual who cared about people and his community. During his spare time, he loved going to flea markets and finding bargains.

Mr. Harker was a member of the Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Rehoboth Beach, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 646 in Lewes, and a life member of Rehoboth Beach VFW Post 7447. He was a member of American Legion Post 17, where he served as the service officer, and also dedicated countless hours to community service.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Harker was preceded in death by his daughter, Laural Ann Broom; and a brother, Richard Lee Harker. He is survived by his daughter Lisa Marie Bourque and her husband Leon; a fiancée, Deborah Ruley and her daughter Nicole Ruley; three grandchildren: Jacob, David and Micah; a great-grandson, Ayden; a brother, Billy Harker; a sister, Phyllis Foxwell; and a lifelong best friend, Pete Owens, who Mr. Harker knew since he was 11 years old.

Memorial services will be held Friday, June 12, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private.
