Big Chill Surf Cantina hosts fundraiser for CHEF

Teacher Appreciation Party raises $400
September 21, 2015

Big Chill Surf Cantina hosted a fundraiser Aug. 28  for Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation. “Talk about getting the school year off to a good start!” says Alyssa Titus, Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation development director. The event raised $400. Timed to coordinate with the opening of the academic year, the event was a team effort by the employees at the popular cantina in Rehoboth Beach.

“The teacher appreciation party was a great way for our ‘chill fans’ to show their support for CHEF’s efforts to develop the talents of kids in our community,” says Lincoln Rogerson, owner and general manager of Big Chill. “Everyone was eager to help us out.”

“We always want our events to be fun,” adds Casey Minard, one of the Big Chill hosts, noting the packed-house turnout. “We even created the Big Chill Rotten Apple shots, our tongue-in-cheek nod to the teacher’s pet icon.”

“The $400 donation goes a long way,” says Titus. “More than anything, it’s an investment in our young people; they’re our future workforce and community leaders.

Rogerson acknowledges that Big Chill is frequently involved in local fundraising events. “Supporting our community is important to us - and to our customers. We are lucky to have so many generous people here at Big Chill,” he says. “On Sept. 28 also we’ll be saluting the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays with an event to help them protect our natural waters - it’s our backyard. So be sure to join us.”

Big Chill Surf Cantina is next to Liquid Surf Shop and Taco Reho food truck, neighbors on Chillaware Island in the heart of Sussex County between Rehoboth Beach and Lewes.
