Madeline A. Nelson, avid volunteer

Madeline A. Nelson, 97, of Rehoboth Beach, passed away Monday, Oct. 19, 2015, at her home. She was born June 11, 1918, in Trenton, N.J., daughter of the late Louis and Catherine (Weber) Ammann.

Mrs. Nelson was actively involved in numerous organizations in Delaware and immensely enjoyed volunteering. She was a former volunteer at Delaware Hospice, a former member of the Beebe Healthcare Auxiliary and Elks Lodge, both in Lewes, the Rehoboth Beach Lions Club, member of the Rehoboth Beach VFW Post 7447, American Legion Post 28 in Millsboro, and the Navy Nurse Corps Association. She was also a former member of the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality at St. Edmond Catholic Church in Rehoboth Beach.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Nelson was preceded in death by her husband, Rayburn H. Nelson; a brother, Louis Ammann Jr.; a sister, Catherine Lyons; and a daughter, Mary Anne Buttrick. She is survived by her three daughters: Sally Jozwiak and her husband Richard of Lewes, Jean Nelson of Falls Church, Va. and Susan Nelson and her husband Walt Witkowski of Chicago, Ill.; a son-in-law, John Buttrick of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren: John Jozwiak and his wife Susan of Frederick, Md., Heather Keane and her husband David of Frederick, Logan Elia of Phoenix, and Max Elia of New Haven, Conn.; seven great-grandchildren: John Jozwiak, Emma Jozwiak, Jack Jozwiak, Jason Jozwiak, Lauren Keane, Grant Keane and Evan Keane; a sister, Elaine Hearney of Hamilton, N.J.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Wednesday, Oct. 28, at 11 a.m., at St. Edmond Catholic Church, 409 King Charles Ave., Rehoboth Beach. Interment will follow the services at 1 p.m., at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro.

Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.
