A rare piece of Delaware history will be available for auction at this year’s annual MERR Fin-raiser benefit at Salero, atop the Henlopen Hotel in Rehoboth Beach, Saturday, Nov. 21.
An original pastel from legendary Lewes artist Howard Schroeder will be one of the items available at the benefit. A painting of a boat house on the Lewes-Rehoboth Canal has been donated and will include a letter of authenticity from the Schroeder family.
“We are thrilled and honored to have such a meaning piece from an artist who dedicated his talents to capturing the maritime landscapes of the area,” said Suzanne Thurman, executive director of the Marine Education Research and Rehabilitation Institute.
The painting will join many other items available for live and silent auction at the annual event, which will begin at 4 p.m., with a Happy Dolphin Hour”until 5 p.m. Items from area businesses include dinners, jewelry, trips, and gift certificates to local stores and restaurants that make for excellent holiday gifts. Auctioneer Frank McCragen will once again be at the helm to keep audiences laughing and bidding.
Heavy hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting with celebrity bartenders, complimentary champagne as well as a live auction and silent auction will take place throughout the evening, Live music by 33 1/3 will once again provide the soundtrack to the evening’s events and opportunities to meet the members of the Marine Education Research and Rehabilitation Institute team and learn about their numerous efforts and rescues throughout the year.
Tickets for the event are $55, or two for $100, with all proceeds going toward the nonprofit organization’s efforts in marine mammal and sea turtle rescue.
