Bethany Beach Fire & Ice Festival Is A Go For this Friday to Sunday in the 'Quiet Resorts'
Due to the time of year and the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic in the United States, there hasn't been a whole to tell you about in the last couple of months as it pertains to current events at the Delaware and Maryland beaches.
But we're excited to say that we have some pretty fun things to talk about for this final weekend of February, most significantly the 4th Annual Fire & Ice Festival in Bethany Beach.
There are a number of fun community events scheduled for this weekend in the "Quiet Resorts," which we'll go into much greater detail about below.
Fire & Ice is definitely the highlight of the weekend, but we do want to quickly mention both the annual Georgetown Volunteer Fire Department Oyster Eat on Saturday, February 27, which will be a drive-thru event this year, and the virtual Love on Tap Craft Beer Festival in Ocean City.
Both events are extremely scaled down for 2021, but click on the corresponding links above to learn how you can still participate, with hopes of things returning to normal in time for the 2022 versions of these popular events.
But as Fire & Ice is largely outside, one of the few outdoor events held during the winter months, we have much more to tell you about this week's signature Bethany Beach offseason event.
Let's take a look at some of the highlighted events on tap for the Fire & Ice Festival, scheduled for February 26-28. For a full schedule of events, please visit www.fireandicede.com.
Ice Sculpture Demo (February 27)
Due to the current environment, this portion of the Fire & Ice Festival is live streamed for 2021. But the public is still invited to tune in on Saturday from 5:30 until 7:30 p.m., to see 3,000 pounds of ice transformed into a detailed sculpture.
The live stream is free and can be viewed via the Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce's Facebook page.
Festival Walking Tours (February 26-27)
Enjoy the great outdoors along the coast during the walking portion of this year's Fire & Ice Festival, which begins at 5 p.m., on both Friday and Saturday evenings.
Festival maps are available that will guide you through the exhibits. The ice sculptures will be unveiled and illuminated on Friday evening and available for public viewing for the rest of the weekend.
Walking tours are taking place in several locations, including on Garfield Parkway, at the Millville Boardwalk, in John West Park in Ocean View and at Lord's Landscaping in Millville.
These tours are all free, so stop by the beach this weekend for a good time. Ice sculptures will be available at all of the locations mentioned above.
Walk-Through Food and Wine Trail (February 26)
Enjoy a delicious five-course meal, along with specially chosen wine pairings, on Friday evening at Lord's Landscaping in Millville.
Organized by the Off The Hook Restaurant Group and Bethany Beach Beverage Company, this is offered for groups of four and runs $160. All proceeds from this fantastic coastal evening benefit the Santa's Letters organization.
Along with the great food and wine, Delmarva themed ice sculptures will be on display, with a glimpse of the festival's very own Fire Dancer. You were probably wondering when we were going to get to the fire portion of the event, weren't you?
All participants for this part of the festival must be 21 or older. Further information, including the full menu, and tickets are available here.
