Events This Weekend in Delaware and Maryland

Fall Festival Season continues this weekend with several more great events and gatherings to tell you about in areas located throughout the region.

If you love interesting and exciting local events, this is the best time of year to be living in or visiting the Delaware and Maryland beaches.

We begin this week with a locals favorite in Milford and then take a tour of several different towns and municipalities before we're done.

Riverwalk Freedom Festival (September 16)

This 22nd annual event is held in Milford and is scheduled for Saturday, September 16, beginning at 9 a.m.

Centered in downtown Milford and areas along the Mispillion River, Riverfest features the always popular Duck Dash, as well as live bands, food vendors, kids games, outdoor festivities, and events in Bicentennial Park.

Milford's largest outdoor festival concludes with a big fireworks display at dusk.

Southern Delaware Wine, Food & Music Festival (September 15-16)

This delicious local event is taking place in 2023 on the grounds of Nassau Valley Vineyards and is planned for 12 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, September 16.

The main event of the festival is the "Chef Throwdown" which pits two teams of accomplished local chefs in a chop-style food competition. There will also be a silent auction, a wine wall, live music, and much more. There's also a pre-event wine dinner planned for the vineyards on Friday, September 15, from 6 until 8:30 p.m.

Broad Creek Bike & Brew (September 16)

This scenic bike tour is held in the western reaches of Sussex County and is sponsored by the Western Sussex Chamber of Commerce.

Many of the area's historic sites are featured on the ride, including the Laurel Heritage Museum, Old Christ Church, the Bethel Museum, and many others. Trap Pond State Park is also a featured stop on this fun and historic bike ride through Sussex County.

After the race, stick around for some live music, barbecued chicken, and locally crafted beer at Laurel Elementary School on Central Avenue.
