5-year-old swipes backpack, rides bike down Route 1

The 5-year-old boy is seen riding in southbound traffic on Route 1 July 4 near the Tanger Outlets.
A 5-year-old boy made a break for it July 4, riding his bike on Route 1 with a stolen backpack while his parents were sleeping.
Police were called at 10:40 a.m. about a boy riding his bicycle in the southbound traffic lanes of Route 1, and they stopped him near Bluecoast restaurant. In photos posted on public Facebook group USPS Community, the boy is on his yellow bike with a North Face book bag, with the tag still on it.
Delaware State Police Cpl. Amina Ali said the boy was safely returned to his parents and the backpack was returned to the North Face store.
“There was no criminal action taken in reference to the shoplifting,” she said. “The child had left his home while parents were sleeping.”
