Rebranding as Aladdin Market, Jerusalem International Grocery is moving to downtown Rehoboth Beach.
Store owner Jamil Ahmad said Jan. 14 the last day of business for the grocery’s Route 1 location in Tenley Court is Monday, Jan. 20. He said the move has already begun; it will take a couple of days to switch locations and he expects to reopen no later than the end of the month.
Ahmad, who opened the grocery in 2013, said the new location is in the Village by the Sea shops, at the Baltimore Avenue end, a space that most recently was home to All Dried Out and Salty Dog, a specialty dog food store that moved to the ocean block of Rehoboth Avenue last summer.
Ahmad, who is from Jordan, said the Route 1 location worked well to get the business started, but he’s hoping there’s more foot traffic in downtown Rehoboth. He said the market will continue to carry all the European, Middle Eastern and Mediteranean specialties it’s known for, and will offer an expanded convenience section.
Because it’s the middle of winter, Ahmad said he’s still deciding what the hours of operation will be following reopening. Once summer hits, he said, the hours will be extended. For more information, call the store at 302-644-1700 or Ahmad’s cellphone at 615-484-2326.
