Alice amazes all

Young pageant star juggles dance, sewing, giving back to community
January 16, 2025

Ten-year-old Alice Baich of Rehoboth Beach has done so much for her community over the last two years.

Starting in 2022, Alice opened a lemonade stand in her neighborhood. The idea was to sell lemonade to golfers during a tournament, but it became so much more than that.

Alice and her best friend attempted to sell lemonade for a second time after the tournament, this time in front of her house.

“We had tents, balloons and posters. We ended up raising over $2,000 for the Tunnell Cancer Center,” Alice said.

This sparked her interest in community service.

In 2024 alone, Alice volunteered at a princess tea party in memory of Bethany VanSciver, donated school supplies for Sylvan's Backpack Challenge, and donated 18 blessing bags to Beebe Healthcare’s Population Health department. The bags were given to the homeless throughout Sussex County.

On top of that work, Alice participates in pageants, which she started in 2023 after a friend told her about it. She currently holds two titles with crowns – Juvenile Miss Sussex County and Delmarva’s Princess. At these pageants, organizers expect participants to do community service work and have a talent. Alice’s talent is dance.

Along with participating in “The Nutcracker” in December, Alice is preparing for her competition dance season with Sussex Dance Academy. This is her second year having a solo and has had the pleasure of working with Miss Delaware, Nova Gaffney, for a group routine. Alice’s mother, Alexa Allen Baich, believes the competition team is very good for her daughter.

“[Seeing] the way that [the older and the younger girls] interact with each other and all of the positive talk and support they give each other is really wonderful to see,” Alexa said.

Along with dance, Alice has recently started practicing for golf tournaments and doing crafty activities. She loves to create art projects for other people and to sew.

Alice is looking forward to going into her 2025 competition dance season and doing more events in her community. She plans to do some sort of community service every month.

“I love to give back,” she said.
