Making good on its long-standing claim as the locals' favorite sandwich spot, Arena's Deli recently teamed up with the BLGT USA Tour to help raise awareness and funds for Creating A More Positive Rehoboth and support equality beyond marriage.
The BLGT USA tour launched Memorial Day and spokesperson Taryn Miller-Stevens said her group has challenged chefs nationwide to put a twist on an American favorite, the bacon, lettuce and tomato sandwich, but adding an ingredient that starts with the letter "g."
To accomplish this feat, Arena's General Manager Brud Lee said his sandwich experts decided to add a special garlic and herb neufchâtel cream cheese to the the sandwich in lieu of mayonnaise.
Rehoboth Beach was stop No. 8 for the tour, whose organizers plan to unveil a BLGT in every state by Labor Day weekend. All summer long, $1 from the sale of every BLgT at Arenas will be donated to CAMP Rehoboth to support LBGT equality.
CAMP Rehoboth Co-Founder Steve Elkins said the money will help cover operational costs at the community center.
"We have to keep the lights on so we can have the programs," Elkins said.
Both Arena's Deli and CAMP will be celebrating 25 years in Rehoboth this summer so, according to Lee, the partnership is a natural.
"It would be difficult to write the history of Rehoboth without mentioning CAMP Rehoboth," he said. "As we have grown as a company, CAMP Rehoboth has grown as an organization, so it was a very easy choice to support them in their works."
