Arnold L. ‘Al’ Truitt, systems technician

September 28, 2016

Arnold L. "Al" Truitt, 72, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Sept. 24, 2016. Arnold was born in Lewes, son of the late George Edwin and Annie Beatrice (Dorey) Truitt.

He was a systems technician with Verizon (formerly known as Diamond State Telephone and Bell Atlantic) for 33 years, retiring in 1999. Many years ago he had the exterior of his home built, and from there completely finished the inside on his own. This sparked an interest in home improvements which he did in his spare time.

He proudly served our country and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force..

Al was a man of many talents, a visionary who never met a stranger; he enjoyed gardening, sailing, electronics, inventing, playing board and card games with friends – especially dominoes. He loved to talk and always enjoyed a good exchange about the stock market and politics. He and his wife loved to travel, and he was always inspired by beautiful landscapes which he would then come home and recreate. If he decided he wanted to do something he taught himself how to do it, and then got the job done. He loved to repurpose and recreate projects from things people would no longer have a use for.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his stepmother, Leona Hudson Truitt; a brother, George C. Truitt; a stepsister, Odetta Bradner; and two stepbrothers, Roland and George Hudson.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Barbara (Elliott) Truitt; a son, David Truitt; one sister, Judy Rogers of Laurel; one brother, Thomas E. Truitt and wife Lora Green of Port Angeles, Wash.; a stepsister, Elsie Lathbury German; two stepbrothers, Paul Hudson and wife Helen, and William Hudson; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Oct. 10, in the chapel at Marvel Carriage Museum, 510 S. Bedford St., Georgetown.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, Del 19963.

Arrangements in the care of Short Funeral Services, Georgetown.
