Nick Cox
A Cape sophomore, Nick went 2-for-3 with a solo home run and an RBI double in Cape’s 5-1 road win at Saint Mark’s May 11. Coach Ben Evick said, “Nick is a centerfielder and pitcher, a Mariner Middle School guy and from Lewes Little League. He’s had some really good outings on the mound for us this year. He is 1-1. Over 15 innings, he’s allowed zero earned runs. So he currently carries a 0.00 ERA. Offensively, he has struggled at times, but he is coming to life at the right moment, taking us into the tournament.” The Vikings finish the regular season home versus Caravel on Saturday, May 15. The DIAA Baseball Tournament is slated to begin Tuesday, May 18.
Mikey Frederick
Cape fans of boys’ lacrosse who were at the Sanford game May 8 saw Mikey Frederick go off, scoring five goals in an 11-10 loss to the Warriors. “Mikey always brings it,” said Jason Bragg, a traveling parent who was there to watch his son Will. Coach Mark D’Ambrogi said, “Mikey Frederick has grown his game into more than just our X attackman. His scoring has increased, as his assists and his riding and ground ball play continue to be strengths. Mikey really enjoys the competition, and making himself and his teammates better. We look forward to seeing him play his best in the biggest games of the year.” The five goals were a single-game career high for the junior wrestler who placed third in the state at 145 (2020) and 138 (2021) the last two seasons. Cape on attack is a matchup nightmare with Mikey in the middle, and Hank D’Ambrogi and Gabe Best roaming the offensive zone.
Holden Kammerer
Holden has had a great senior season as a D pole on Franklin & Marshall’s undefeated men’s lacrosse team. The Diplomats won the Centennial Conference for the second year in a row. F&M gets an automatic bid to the NCAA tournament and will face John Carroll University at home Saturday, May 15. Holden, an all-state and all-American player at Cape, has been wreaking havoc on opposing offenses, especially the three money games that clinched the conference championship. Coach Todd Cavallaro said, “Holden has had much success academically and athletically over his time at F&M. He has been a tremendous leader and fierce competitor from day one. He has developed his skills every year, and without a doubt he is playing his best lacrosse his senior year. Holden holds himself and his teammates to a higher standard, which has led to much success as a team over the years.” Holden was selected to selected first team All Centennial Conference as a defender
