Aubrey T. Hudson, Delaware State Police retiree
Aubrey T. Hudson of Milton passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024.
Aubrey was born and raised in Georgetown, son of the late Atwell and Flora E. (Mitchell) Hudson.
Aubrey graduated from Georgetown High School and attended University of Delaware before enlisting in the U.S. Air Force, serving from 1952-56. After his service to our country, Aubrey served the State of Delaware for 18 years with Delaware State Police, retiring in 1974 with the rank of lieutenant. Not one to be still, Aubrey continued his service to our local communities as a magistrate judge for 11 years, with Delaware JP Court 3 in Georgetown and Delaware JP Court 4 in Seaford. After Aubrey fully retired from the State of Delaware, he worked several years in charge of security at E. I. DuPont Company in Seaford.
The community was always very important to Aubrey; he was an active member of Bethel UM Church in Lewes and loved helping others, especially family and friends. Aubrey was a friend to many. Aubrey excelled at numerous sports and put Georgetown sports on the map. He was inducted into the Delaware Sports Hall of Fame Class of 2008. At his induction, he was honored for being “Downstate Delaware’s finest all-around athlete.” Even in his later years, he enjoyed a good competitive tennis match.
In addition to his parents, Aubrey is preceded in death by his wife, Gayle Edgerton Hudson (2007); a daughter, Dian Hudson (1990); a sister, Wanda Linden; and a brother, Robert Lee Hudson.
He is survived by his wife of seven years, Cheng Cheng He Hudson; two children, Mark W. Hudson (Melanie) and Debbie Donaway (Greg), both of Georgetown; stepson, Walter S. “Sam” Howard III (Melissa) of Chesapeake, Va.; stepdaughter, Sandra Howard; grandchildren, Adrienne Donaway, Erica Donaway, Nick Hudson and Samantha Ewing (Taylor); step-grandchildren, Katie Hood (Andy), Chip Howard (Courtney), Mike Britts, Stephen Britts (Kt) and Laura Britts; step-great-grandchildren, Henry, Norah, Symmes, Quinn, Stevie and Ellie; and his beloved fur babies, two dogs, Rocky and Argo Hudson; and three cats, Coco, MeowMeow and Sesame Hudson.
The family would like to extend its deepest gratitude to friends, neighbors, church family, and caregivers for their love and support. Special thanks to the staff of AccentCare.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Bethel UM Church, 129 W. 4th St., Lewes. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at noon. Burial will immediately follow at Bethel Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, Aubrey desired to have memorial donations be made to the church, or Fork Union Military Academy, G.R. Edgerton Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 278, Fork Union, VA 23055.
