Author David Salner to read and sign books Oct. 24

October 20, 2019

Widely published author David Salner will launch his new book and sign copies at 4 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 24, at Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

Just published by Broadstone Books, his new poetry collection, “The Stillness of Certain Valleys,” features poems about people in the heartland abandoned by jobs.

“What touched me in the mining and factory towns I lived in was the humanity that was toughened in the process of loss, the range of what I saw every day, from wry good humor to unthinking self-sacrifice. And to write these poems I had to go to school, to my own individual school, to create a voice fit to honor the people I knew,” Salner said.

Salner will read from the collection and discuss topics of interest to poets and poetry readers alike.

Salner’s writing has won numerous awards, and has been featured three times on Writers Almanac, and published in many magazines. He worked in blue-collar trades as an iron ore miner, steelworker, and machinist, holds a master of fine arts degree from the University of Iowa Writers Workshop, and presently works as a librarian. He lives in Long Neck.

The program is free to attend; no RSVP is required.
