Awada Nita Ross, adored her children

Awada Nita Ross, 59, of Salisbury, Md., was born April 29, 1959, to Albert Morgan and Nita Bell Ross in Philadelphia, Pa. Awada was affectionately called “Wada” by her family and friends. On Tuesday, April 9, 2019, she departed this life surrounded by her children and family at Bayhealth South Hospital in Dover.

Awada was baptized at an early age at Bethany Baptist Church by the Rev. Alpheus L. Bright. She was educated in the Philadelphia School District, and later earned her diploma from University City High School. Awada’s greatest delights in life were her children. Her sacrifice for them knew no bounds. As a young mother, she was always involved in their education. She was active in the PTA and sought out supplemental programs to enrich her children’s education. 

Awada is preceded in death by her father, Albert Morgan Ross I; her mother, Nita Bell (Garrison) Ross; her godfather Theodore Culbreath Sr. (Daddy Banks); her godmother Julia B. Culbreath; her sister Aloha Samantha “Peachie” Ross; her godbrothers, Thomas Culbreath and Theodore Culbreath Jr.; and her daughter, Nita Aloha Norwood. 

Awada leaves to cherish her memory and celebrate her life, two daughters, Ardealia Awada Ross and Selena Vanessa (Jonathan) Henry; and one son, Richard Lee Norwood II; six grandchildren, Mya Henry, Jonathan Henry, Jabria Leggett, JaNya Leggett, Aaron Leggett and Kameron Leggett; four brothers, Garnel (Henrietta) Ross, Antonio C. Ross Sr., Albert M. (Selena) Ross II and Antoine C. (Sonya) Ross Sr.; one godsister, Brenda (Samuel) Peterson; one godbrother, Glen Culbreath; a special nephew, Christopher Blake Hunt; a special adopted grandson, Aaron “Jeff” Leggett; a best friend of over 40 years, Emma Ruff; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and loved ones.

Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 27, at 11 a.m., at Bennie Smith Funeral Home, 437 N. Front St., Seaford. Awada's children have chosen cremation for their mother. No viewing will be held. We hope you can join in the celebration of her life.
