Barbara B. Landon, legend of nursing

December 30, 2021

Barbara B. Landon, 67, of Milton passed away Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes. She was born Sept. 11, 1954, in Brooklyn, N.Y., daughter of the late Louis and Barbara Bertrand.

Barbara was a graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, Class of 1972. She attended Delaware Technical & Community College, where she earned a degree in nursing. Barbara went on to build a lifelong nursing career, dedicating 31 years to Beebe Healthcare, Milford Hospital and Stockley Center, and retired in 2012. A faithful member of Midway Assembly of God, she was very active in the church.

Barbara had many talents and hobbies. She was a talented painter and jewelry maker, creating beautiful pieces for family and friends. She enjoyed sending cards, just one example of her nurturing and caring nature. Barbara loved the beach, at Lewes particularly, and soaking up the sun, listening to the sounds of the waves lapping on the sand. Above all, she cherished time with those she held most dear. Barbara  was a loving and devoted mother, sister, companion and friend. She was loved by many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

In addition to her parents, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Byron Landon; and her brothers, Robert Weaver and Louis “Skipper” Bertrand. She is survived by her daughters, Khara Landon (Sarah) of Milton, and Margaret Landon (Rebecca Chambers) of Seaford; her companion, Jay Dentino of Rehoboth Beach; her first grandchild on the way; her sister, Ruth Bertrand of Dover; her brother, Jay Reibsome (Sheree) of Greenwood; her many nieces, nephews, and dear friends; her beloved dog, Dixie; and her granddog, Barney.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be private. Flowers are welcome, as Barbara loved them.
