Beebe Healthcare adds fourth cath lab for cardiovascular care

October 19, 2024

Beebe Healthcare has added a fourth catheterization lab at its Margaret H. Rollins Lewes Campus.

The technologically advanced cath lab will enhance patient care in Sussex County by providing more access to life-saving procedures and improving outcomes in emergencies.

“Beebe’s highly skilled interventional cardiologists, vascular surgeons, and multidisciplinary care team can improve and save even more lives with this wonderful addition to our Lewes Campus,” said Tracy Belcher, BSN, RN, NE-BC, CCRP, director of Cardiovascular Operations and Outpatient Infusion. “Opening a new cardiac catheterization lab offers significant benefits for both the hospital and the community.”

Catheterization labs have a wide range of minimally invasive procedures available to patients, ranging from emergency heart attack care to valve replacement and arrythmias. Beebe’s innovative team performs some of the most advanced procedures in the cath lab, such as transcatheter aortic valvular replacement and left atrial appendage occlusion implants.

The new lab uses the latest Philips technology to improve precision, efficiency and streamlined workflow, which lead to enhanced procedural performance and reduced radiation exposure, resulting in faster, safer and more effective interventions. The cath lab also has the latest enhancements in imaging capabilities that complement advanced imaging and diagnostic capabilities, enabling clinicians to make informed decisions in real time that benefit the patient.

The new lab would not be possible without the generous donation from Thom and Robin Harvey, who contributed $250,000.

“Community support plays such a vital role in the growth of our health system, and we could not continue to grow without generous philanthropists like Thom and Robin,” said Kay Young, Beebe Medical Foundation executive director of development.

Beebe recently received five quality awards from the American Heart Association focusing on heart and stroke care. The Get With the Guidelines awards are presented to hospitals across the U.S. that integrate research and evidence-based guidelines into their practice environments with data that demonstrates positive impact on patient outcomes.

“The integration of these technologies will elevate the hospital's cardiac care standards and improve our patient experience even in an emergency, making Beebe a leader in advanced cardiovascular care in the region,” said David A. Tam, MD, MBA, CPHE, FACHE, Beebe Healthcare president and CEO. “A fourth cardiac catheterization lab also bolsters Beebe’s ability to meet the growing community needs and improve our community’s health.”
