Beebe Medical Center has recognized Kevin D. Bristowe, MD, for his commitment to clinical excellence and for his contributions to healthcare by honoring him with the organization’s Standards of Excellence Award.
William Swain Lee, chairman of Beebe Medical Center Board of Directors, and Jeffrey M. Fried, FACHE, president and CEO of Beebe Medical Center, presented the award Oct. 2 at the second annual New Provider Reception and Physician Awards dinner event.
Bristowe, a board-certified emergency medicine physician, has served as medical director of the Beebe Medical Center Emergency Department for five years. He joined Beebe Medical Center in 1998. Previously, he earned his medical degree at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia and completed his residency at the Medical Center of Delaware (now Christiana Care) in Wilmington.
A Delaware native, Bristowe works closely with members of the Beebe Medical Staff, as well as with emergency care providers throughout Delaware to provide the highest-quality patient care. He has served as medical director of Sussex County Emergency Medical Services for more than 10 years.
“It was very hard to narrow this down to only one person,” Fried told the more than 100 people attending the Beebe Medical Staff annual event. “There are more than 300 providers on this medical staff who deserve recognition, many of whom were in the running for this award. This year’s winner is Dr. Kevin Bristowe.”
The Beebe Medical Center Standards of Excellence Award is based on several factors, including patient satisfaction scores, patient outcomes, and the physician’s commitment and participation with colleagues on hospital committees, performance improvement projects, work groups and other forums focusing on improving overall patient care.
“An award like this is not possible without the support, dedication, and devotion to patient care of everyone at Beebe Medical Center,” Bristowe said. “I am glad to work with all of you and to be a member of the Beebe Medical Staff.”
Fried emphasized the importance that physicians play in Beebe Medical Center’s ability to provide safe and quality care to its patients. He cited the many awards Beebe has received in recent years.
“We have a pretty special medical community here,” he said. “I want to let you know how much we appreciate all that you do for Beebe and for the community.”
Beebe Medical Center also recognized Lewes orthopaedic surgeon David Sopa, DO, for 25 years of service.
“The service and commitment that Dr. Sopa has given our medical staff and our community is greatly appreciated,” Fried said. “We look forward to continuing to work with him in the future.”
Lee presented Sopa with the award.
Jeffrey E. Hawtof, MD, FAAFP, vice president of Medical Operations and Informatics, who hosted the evening, thanked everyone for coming.
“Tonight we gather to meet and greet our providers who have joined our medical staff since last year,” he said, calling out the names of the new members and asking them to stand.
