Beginner’s oil pastel series to start March 2

February 17, 2023

The Lewes Public Library will offer a free eight-week introductory art course, Creating Whimsical Masterpieces with Pastel, beginning at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, March 2. Classes continue weekly through April 20.

Led by local professional teaching artist John Donato, the course is designed to be a fun, engaging and empowering artistic experience for older adults, ages 55 and above, who would like to investigate their creative potential while building a basic level of mastery using oil pastels. With support from their teacher and peers, participants will investigate idea creation, personal style and finishing techniques while producing their own final artwork.

At the conclusion of the class series, participants will be able to attend a recognition event at the library and reveal their artwork to the public. The works will be displayed onsite at the library during the month of May.

Space is limited, and registration is required at lewes.lib.de.us. Sessions are one hour in length, and participants must commit to attending all eight sessions. All supplies and materials will be provided.

This program is supported in part by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. This series is a partnership with DDOA and Lifetime Arts to offer creative aging workshops designed to enrich the lives of older adults by providing intentional social engagement and a focus on building art-making skills over time.
