The Bethany-Fenwick Area Chamber of Commerce presented five local art teachers with a check for $500 each, to be used for their art classrooms. The check presentation took place at the chamber’s Business After Hours Family Night Out Sept. 26.
Principals and teachers from John M. Clayton Elementary School, Lord Baltimore Elementary School, Phillip C. Showell Elementary School, Southern Delaware School of the Arts, and Selbyville Middle School were on hand for the check presentations.
The annual Bethany Beach Boardwalk Arts Festival features a silent auction which raises money for the art programs in these schools, but the 40th anniversary event was canceled due to high winds and thunderstorms. “Even though the arts festival did not go as planned, we are glad we are still able to recognize the local art programs at this community event. All chamber events are rooted in a common goal of community, promotion, and advocacy,” said Executive Director Lauren Weaver.
The chamber partnered with Lord’s Landscaping and A Sweet Affair Events to create a fun, community atmosphere at Business After Hours Family Night Out, a seasonal spin on the chamber’s most popular networking event.
In addition to the check presentations to the schools, the event raised money for many other local organizations. Food vendors donated a portion of their proceeds to the Beebe Medical Foundation for the art therapy program at Tunnell Cancer Center; MPI accepted donations toward purchasing Smart Pads for the Indian River School District Math departments; and Lord’s Landscaping sold activity passes, with all proceeds going to Mariner’s Bethel United Methodist Church CRASH Ministries.
