Betty Griffith Hayes, successful businesswoman
Betty (Betty Lou) Griffith Hayes of Dover passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2022. Betty was born Oct. 10, 1929, in Dover, daughter of the late Milton and Mabel (Spence) Griffith.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, the love of her life, Robert Hayes.
Betty and Bob owned and operated The Hayes Shop of Dover, and Betsy’s in Rehoboth, where they resided for 30 years. She enjoyed golf, playing bridge and a party. She was a die-hard Phillies fan. In her life, family and friends came first.
She is survived by her two children, Susan H. Glanden of Dover, and Peter G. Hayes of Milton; her son-in-law, Don Glanden; and daughter-in-law, Theresa Hayes. Betty is also survived by four grandchildren, G. Hayes Glanden (Michele) of Milton, M. Elizabeth Glanden of Charleston, S.C., Jakob M. Hayes of Milton, and Matthew D. Hayes of Milton; one great-granddaughter, Ellie G. Glanden of Milton; and many nieces and nephews, including her special niece, Holly A. Budd.
A service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 17, at Torbert Funeral Chapel, 1145 E. Lebanon Road, Dover, with a visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Betty’s name to Autism Delaware, 17571 Nassau Commons Blvd., Lewes, DE 19958.
