Breathwork and personal development series to start Aug. 2
HealTree will present We Shift: Breathwork, Personal Development and Connection Series, facilitated by Tara Gush, from 6 to 7:15 p.m., Wednesdays, Aug. 2 to 30, at 1632 Savannah Road, Suite 9, Lewes.
Breathwork is the act of consciously paying attention and or manipulating one’s breath to reach a deeper level of consciousness and become aware of thoughts, feelings, memories and patterns that are not in alignment with the authentic self. Breathwork offers an opportunity to release any energy in the body that is no longer serving the individual.
Once that energy is released, there may be more space for one’s authentic self to show up, allowing one’s true nature to flow freely. There are many different types of breath techniques, and all types offer improved mental, emotional, physical and spiritual well-being. When people practice breathwork, they can increase their self-awareness and patience; reduce stress, anxiety, and grief; release trauma and fear stuck in the body; increase energy levels; and reduce physical pain.
Breathing techniques work by regulating the nervous system, refocusing attention and modifying brain circuits. When a person feels happy or content, breathing slows and deepens. When a person feels scared or nervous, breath speeds up and becomes shallower. The breath pattern sends a signal to the brain. When a person focuses on their breath, it is possible to change the pattern and therefore change the signals the brain is receiving. Practicing breathing techniques also provides a focus for attention, thus removing attention from an object, person or thought that may be causing discomfort. Regular practice of breathwork modifies the brain circuits, increasing resilience to current and future life stressors.
In this series, Gush will lead participants through her holistic shift method to release stress and anxiety, get better at life and thrive on their own terms. Attendees will learn how to integrate a variety of mind, body and breath modalities to release the worry worship and transform their lives. Each week, the class will focus on one of the five pillars of the shift method. In addition to the weekly classes, participants will receive group support via Whatsapp chat as well as breathwork recordings for private practice.
