Cape alum completes second degree to go into nursing at Beebe

December 8, 2022

Ashley Nicole Powell, a 2017 graduate of Cape Henlopen High School, completed her second undergraduate degree, a bachelor’s in nursing from the University of Delaware in May, and was pinned by her mother at an official ceremony. She is now employed at Beebe Healthcare in labor and delivery.

Powell achieved her first bachelor’s degree in three years, summa cum laude, from Johnson & Wales in Providence, R.I., in 2020. One of five children, she worked diligently to obtain summa cum laude status while working as a resident advisor in a freshman dorm, working in the college library and being nine hours away from family and friends. Powell obtained several scholarships from different organizations.

When the pandemic came about, Powell understood the need for the medical profession and knew she had the heart for nursing, leading her to pursue the 17-month accelerated nursing program at the University of Delaware.

Her faith continues to keep her focused throughout her journey. Powell’s family members believe she will continue to make them all proud and that she will serve those in need of care with a spirit of love and excellence. She has the full support of her parents, grandparents, siblings, family and friends.
