The cold, windy weather didn’t cool down Cape’s bats April 19 at Milford, as the Vikings out-slugged the Bucs 16-2 behind 18 hits.
Senior Justin Marsh led the Vikings with a 4-for-4 afternoon, collecting two RBIs and a walk. He delivered singles in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings.
Austin Rhue and Nick Cox each went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Isaac Terhune went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Brian Fleming delivered a double and an RBI as part of a 3-for-5 day. Paris Mitchell went 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Brenn Scott went 1-for-4 with an RBI. Luke Crouch went 1-for-1 with an RBI. Owen Daminger drove in a run, while Josh Reinhold went 2-for 4.
“Offensively, we were on a tear getting 18 hits,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “We put pressure on them in the first, but didn’t score. We just took the wind out of them.”
Nick Cox went five innings on the mound, striking out five while giving up just one earned run. Storm Carlisle came in from the bullpen to finish the game in the sixth.
An ESPN highlight-worthy catch was made by Barritt Ross in left-center field in the fourth inning, as he robbed Milford of a score.
Aydin Zimmerman, Ryan Majia and Matthew Parsons each had a hit for the Bucs. Zimmerman was credited with an RBI. Gabriel Morris took the loss on the mound.
The 7-2 Vikings travel to Sussex Central Thursday, April 21, to face the 6-1 Golden Knights.
