Cape Community Fund holds end-of-season fundraiser

Hudson Fields hosted popular event

“We give people a hand up, we don’t give handouts,” said Cape Community Fund co-founder Butch Archer Sept. 15, as the local musical group The Funsters rocked in the background at the Revelation Beer Garden at Hudson Fields near Milton.

This is the third year Cape Community Fund held an end-of-summer party at Hudson Fields. For the last 10 years, the group has had a spring event in April at Irish Eyes in Lewes.

“Everything we get stays in the Cape Region,” Archer said. “If people have had a disaster in their life like a bad car accident, need food, need help with medical bills, we’ll help you. If you’re a Cape kid, no matter where you are in the world, if you’ve got a problem, we’ll help you out.”

The group formed in 2014 after members of the Lewes High School Class of 1969 became aware of a classmate suffering from a prolonged illness that led to a catastrophic financial situation. Recognizing this need, members came together to raise funds to assist their classmate. As a result, the group became aware of an even greater need for assistance within the local community. This led to the formation of the Cape Community Fund.
