Cape girls’ soccer hosts play day

March 10, 2025

The 2025 edition of the Cape girls’ soccer team hosted a 14-team play day March 8, attracting teams from Delaware and Virginia for full-length games to sharpen the skills before the season kicks off.

Teams on hand for the event were Cape, Appoquinimink, Indian River, Nandua, Caesar Rodney, Odessa, Sussex Central, Sussex Tech, Middletown, Wilmington Christian, Delcastle, Arcadia, Northampton and Lake Forest.

“It was a good opening weekend for Cape girls’ soccer,” said Cape coach Patrick Kilby. “Our JV team had two wins and one tie without giving up a goal on Friday night. Our varsity team played in four scrimmages today in a split-squad format, winning three of four matches. We have a lot of talented youth. The program is being rejuvenated with a lot of freshmen that have joined, and we believe they will be making an impact right away.”

The Cape team outscored Indian River 4-1, Arcadia 8-0 and Northampton 5-0. The Vikings fell to Lake Forest 2-0.

The Vikings are back in action with a scrimmage Friday, March 14, at Delmarva Christian.
