The Cape Henlopen field hockey team continued its spirited run through the Henlopen Conference with a 9-2 win over the Riders at the Vikings' turf field two Oct 13. The win propels the Vikings to a record of 10-0 with four regular-season games remaining.
Four Vikings players scored twice in the matchup of the two Northern Division powers.
Juniors Sara Young and Anna Frederick and seniors Alexa Hendrickson and Taylor Trimmer each scored two goals. Senior captain Erin Ricker added a single blast. Frederick, Ricker and Trimmer each tallied an assist in the contest.
"It was a great game for us," said Taylor Trimmer. "To their credit, Caesar Rodney never gave up and kept coming at us."
By substituting freely, Cape was able to control the offensive end, taking 34 shots to Caesar Rodney's nine.
"We have a lot of depth," said junior wing Anna Frederick. "It's nice having fresh legs going down the stretch of the season."
The Vikings were given 18 penalty corners while the Riders took six.
Cape's Maddie Meade was credited with four stops while Katie Kolobielski had a single save.
The game marked the debut of junior Isabella Delario, who was given a DIAA waiver to play her first game as a Viking after transferring from Sussex Tech to start the school year. Delario is from Rehoboth and attended Beacon Middle School.
The Lady Vikings travel to Smyrna Tuesday, Oct. 18, for a 4 p.m. contest with the Eagles.
