The Cape Junior League Softball All-Stars used big bats and aggressive base running to down the Georgetown/Millsboro All-Stars 16-1 July 5, at the Lower Sussex sports complex.
Cape garnered 15 hits in the game. Catcher Bri Windish went 4-for-4 and knocked in three runs. Hayden Hudson went 3-for-3 with four RBIs. Abby Marsh knocked in two RBIs, while Ava Calciano, Delainie Monitzer and Reagan Buehler each picked up an RBI. Milena Buehler went 2-for-4 from the plate.
The Cape squad snagged 14 stolen bases in the contest and didn’t commit a single error.
“We are always at our best when we are being aggressive,” said Cape manager Chuck Hudson. “We did that tonight – on the mound, at the plate, on the bases and in field. Our girls have earned the right to be confident, and I was happy to see us play that way tonight.”
Marsh went the distance in the circle, striking out six batters and allowing just one run.
Addison Lane had the lone hit for the Georgetown/Millsboro team and garnered the only RBI. Michaela Esposito scored the lone run with a great play to avoid a tag at the plate.
Cape couldn’t keep it going the next night, though, as the all-stars fell to Lower Sussex 14-4 in the championship game. Lower Sussex advances to the state tournament, which is set to begin Monday, July 12, at MOT Little League.
