Cape hockey’s Senior Night for 11 athletes began at the end of a 13-0 win over Sussex Central Oct. 26 that closed out a 14-1 regular season for the Vikings. The Thursday night October weather was balmy under the light of a silvery moon.

The reading of the senior send-offs and shoutouts took so long that the juniors sent out graduation announcements.

“This is a loaded class of good players and great kids,” said coach Kate Austin. “The postseason is another level of focus.”

The state tournament will begin Thursday, Nov. 2.

The 13 goals in the win over Sussex Central were scored by Lulu Rishko with three, Carrie Clausius and Hannah Maney with two each, and single goals from Addy Basile, Macy Steinwedel, Avary Miller, Devon DeGregory, Norah Block and Grace Wiggins.

Assists came from Miller, Samantha Swift, Lexi Nowakowski, Emily Wells, Lina Frederick and Atia Sabbagh with one each.

The playoff brackets will be published Oct. 30 after the Cape Gazette’s print deadline.
