Cape swims past Caesar Rodney

January 20, 2025

The Cape swim teams remained undefeated with a boys’ 122-48 and girls’ 107-63 over Caesar Rodney Jan. 16 at the Sussex Family YMCA in Rehoboth Beach.

The boys’ team won 10 of 11 events, while the girls took first in 9 of 11.

“I thought it was great win,” said Cape senior Holden Tighe. “There were a lot of phenomenal swims, and although we are halfway through the season, we still have a lot of room to improve.”

“It was awesome,” said freshman Jaxen Edwards. “There was a lot of excitement and the team is looking strong.”

Edwards took top honors in the 200 individual medley and the 100 breaststroke. He also swam a leg in the winning 200 medley squad.

“It was a great meet,” said senior Jenna Reinhold. “Caesar Rodney was stiff competition as usual. They are always a tough team with some very good swimmers. They bring out the best in us.”

Reinhold was a leg of the winning 200 and 400 free relay teams.

“CR was a competitive team, but I think we really showed up and worked hard,” said freshman Zoey Neufeld, who won the 500 free with a time of 6:07.62.

“We knew CR was going to be the hardest meet to date and everyone definitely gave it their all,” said sophomore Isla Touw.

Touw won the 100 freestyle and was part of the winning 200 medley relay and the 400 free relay team.

“CR is a good team with quality swimmers and great numbers,” said Cape head coach Bill Geppert. “I am always impressed with their team spirit, regardless of the score. We just have to keep getting better. It was a tough week with three meets. I am both proud and excited by the way our team responded to the challenge. We need to keep working hard as there are some challenging meets ahead. Those meets always bring out the best in everyone. Calm seas don't make the best sailors.”
