The Cape boys’ track team rolled over Milford 127-18 April 26, in Henlopen Conference track & field action highlighted by winning all four relays and every event except the shot put. Ryan Baker doubled up, winning both the 1,600-meter and 3,200-meter races, while Konner Knarr went 10.9 in the 100-meter dash. Young Steven Hart jumped 6-feet-0 again in the high jump, while Bailey Fletcher continues to improve in the pole vault at 11-6. The boys from Cape will take part in the historic Penn Relays Friday, April 29, in Philadelphia, then will travel to Philadelphia Saturday, April 30, for the Unionville Invitational.
The Cape girls won 94-52 over Milford and split the relays, with the Vikings winning the 3,200 and 1,600. Alexa Dougherty of Cape was the high scorer in the meet with two first-place finishes in the 100 and 300, a second-place finish in the triple jump, and a win in the mile relay. Alexa scored 14.25 points. Katie Kuhlman put together a season and personal best in the 1,600 with a time of 5:31.4 and returned to run 1:03 on the mile relay. Hannah Maney won the 400 in 1:03.0 and 200 in 27.3, while Sarah Coty won the high jump in 4-8. Addison Bowman set a season and personal best in the pole vault at 8-0, while Haley Archambault went over 100 feet in the discus for the first time at 102-4. The Cape girls were set to compete at the Penn Relays April 28, and will also head to the Unionville Invitational Saturday in Philadelphia.
Seashore Half Marathon
The 13th annual Seashore Classic Half Marathon and two-person relay will be held at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 7, from Irish Eyes in Lewes. There will be a half-marathon that turns around at Gordons Pond and a 5K that turns around just before Cape Henlopen State Park in Lewes. Beacon tops Mariner
The Beacon boys and the Beacon girls each won over Mariner in the final middle school meet of the season April 27, as more than 100 young athletes ran, sprinted, jumped and threw over two hours in front of a large cheering crowd. The Beacon girls scored 71 points to Mariner’s 38, while the Beacon boys scored 84 points to Mariner’s 23. Oz Daisey of Beacon was the only triple winner of the day, taking the long, triple and high jump events. Next Friday, May 6, at Legends Stadium, the Delaware Middle School Classic will host eight, possibly 10 middle school teams to wrap up the season for 2022.
DQ Dash, Oy Vey & Masser
The fourth annual DQ Dash will return to raise funds and support Lewes’ Fourth of July fireworks Sunday, May 15, and also play host to a large Let Me Run boys’ group. More than 60 young boys will take part from around the county, and a host of girls from the Girls on the Run program will participate.
The eighth annual Oy Vey 5K will be held Sunday, May 22, leaving from Seaside Jewish Community Center at 9 a.m., following the Junction & Breakwater Trail toward Lewes. The out-and-back course will conclude at Seaside Jewish Community Center for the post-race party. You won’t go away hungry.
The 29th annual Masser 5-Miler will be held Sunday, May 29, beginning at 7:30 a.m. from Cape Henlopen High School. It will honor longtime runner and Seashore Strider, the late Dr. Lee Masser. The race will kick off the annual Seashore Striders Racing Series. The Masser 5-Miler is a flat and fast course on the bike trails of Lewes with very little traffic to deal with. Come celebrate the Masser 5-Miler as we remember Doc Masser. Don’t forget to wear your orange.
