Cape unified basketball falls to Caesar Rodney

January 22, 2025

The Cape unified basketball team fell behind Caesar Rodney 29-8 in the first quarter and couldn’t recover, as the Vikings fell to the Riders 44-16 Jan. 21 at the Cape gymnasium. The Vikings move to 0-2, while the Riders are 4-0.

Cape had a balanced attack, getting four points each from juniors Zane Richardson and Daniel Gartman. Xavier Zimmer, Norman Rust, Austin Hastings and Sara Davis added a bucket for the Vikings.

“We did good,” said Cape senior guard Sofie Adams. “It means a lot to me to play with the team.”

“It was a good game,” said Cape player Alivia Heers. “Caesar Rodney was really friendly and a very good team.”

Heers was quick to give kudos to Adams on her leadership and her play.

Sofie had a great game despite working through an injury. She missed a few shots, but continued to shoot. That’s what we love about her. She plays hard and never gives up,” Heers said.

“CR played pretty well,” said Cape freshman guard Aiden Curran. “It’s was fun playing them. I hope we get a chance to play them again because I think we can beat them.“

“CR is a tough team,” said Cape head coach Katie Collick. “They come out and are ready to play. They want to play for the DIAA state championship, and that’s fine. We just want to play for the spirit of the game and have fun. We have a deep bench, and we rotate the players every few minutes. Our team all goes out there and give 100%, if not 110%, energy, and they give their all.”

The Vikings’ next home game is Thursday, Feb. 6 against Indian River.
