Cape volleyball roofs the Red Wolves 3-1

March 27, 2023

The Cape volleyball team used its height and serve consistency March 24 to down Conrad 25-17, 21-25, 25-11, 25-14.

Junior setter Talon Stephens led the Vikings with 37 assists. He also collected eight digs. Senior hitter Odin Potemski garnered 13 kills at the net. Senior captain Niko Panyko bumped 10 digs. Senior Brady Lamb and sophomore Bryce Patterson each had seven kills, while Billy Cerf made five kills and five roofs. Charlie Casas powered four kills.

“It was by no means our cleanest match,” said Cape coach Tyler Coupe. “But they got the job done. I think we had an opportunity to utilize our physicality, but we were plagued by our own unforced errors throughout and we weren’t able to show it as much. In set two, we had seven service errors alone; that’s entirely too many versus a team that has the IQ like a Conrad. I thought our serve-receive improved from our last match, so we were happy to see that. Our overall body language still needs improving. We’ve got to find on-the-court and in-the-moment leaders. We tend to wait until the end or when things are going too perfect to show our emotion. We need someone to take control when things don’t go our way and to bring the team back on the right track. I think Bryce Patterson did a great job coming off the bench and being that spark. He had charisma, focus and he executed really well.”

Gabriel Walsh led the Red Wolves with 25 digs.

Cape hosts MOT Charter Monday, March 27, while the Red Wolves travels top Glasgow.
