Cape volleyball takes five games to rub out River

The Cape Henlopen volleyball team had all it could handle from Indian River Oct. 11, squeaking out a 3-2 victory behind the 20 kills of Kadijah Doughty and 22 assists of Megan Grahne.

Cape opened the match with a 25-14 win, but dropped the second game by a 25-21 score.  The teams split the third and fourth games 25-17 for the Vikings then 25-20 for the Indians.  The Lady Vikings dug in and pulled out a 15-8 victory in the final game.

Kadijah Doughty scored 20 kills and 16 blocks while Megan Grahne scored 22 assists, four kills, one block and six digs.  Hailee Gooch added eight kills, three aces, three blocks and two assists for the Vikings.  Juli Kyritsis tallied four kills, two aces, two digs, one block and an assist. Colleen Simpson scored eight digs and three assists.

The Lady Vikings move to 7-3 on the season and host once-beaten defending Henlopen Conference champion Caesar Rodney at 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 13.

The junior varsity dropped a heartbreaking 2-1 match with the Indians, losing the first game 25-19 and winning the second 25-17 before losing 15-12 in the deciding rubber game.

Roshell Dalton picked up 15 kills, three blocks, eight digs and three assists.  Brittany Hart scored 15 digs while Riley Wagner served up one ace and had 10 digs.  Mallory McDonald scored with nine digs and one assist while Savanah Zaorski blocked one shot, scored two kills and had two digs.  Claudia Ratner scored one kill and one assist.

The junior varsity record now stands at 6-3 overall.
