Carol S. Ewing, active church member

March 1, 2022

Carol S. Ewing, 90, of Rehoboth Beach, and formerly of Wilmington, closed her circle of life Monday, Feb. 28, 2022.  She was born Aug. 31, 1931, in Ashland, Pa., daughter of the late Wiliam F. and Mabel (Balliet) Smith.

Carol was a graduate of Henry C. Conrad High School in Wilmington, Class of 1949.  She always felt every class reunion to be a special time with her many friends.  Carol was also a graduate of Goldey-Beacom College and worked for Hercules Inc. as an executive secretary, retiring after 28 dedicated years.  In 1991, she and her husband Bob built a home in Rehoboth Beach, and Sussex County became home to them.  Epworth United Methodist Church filled a very important part of their lives. Carol was a member of the United Methodist Women, including the Elizabeth Circle, the Cancer in Common support group, and the Chancel Choir.  She was always very proud of the fact that she was a continuous choir member since the age of 10.  For all those who will miss her, just remember that somewhere in heaven, she is enjoying many new adventures surrounded by those she loved who were awaiting her arrival.

In addition to her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 48 years, Robert A. Ewing in 2000; her son, Robert A. Ewing Jr. in 1981, at the age of 20; and her brother, William A. Smith in 2009.  She is survived by her daughters: Kathy Ewing Ruff (Fred) of Lewes, and Julie Ewing Jolley (Brandon) of Leander, Texas; her granddaughters:  Jillian Schuler (Phillip) and Chelsea Thornton (Joshua); and her great-granddaughters:  Isabelle, Danica and Laylah Rose Thornton, and Kendall Schuler.
