Charles Edward Wallace, man of deep faith
Charles “Charlie” Edward Wallace, 73, of Harbeson, formerly of Westminster, Md., passed away peacefully Thursday, March 6, 2025, at Beebe Healthcare in Lewes.
Born Sept. 14, 1951, in Baltimore, Md., Charlie was the beloved son of the late Joseph Freeman Wallace and Rhea Donalda (Curry). He was the cherished husband of Jo Ellen Wallace for 42 years, a partnership built on love, adventure, and a shared life full of memories.
Charlie’s professional life spanned 30 years as a registered nurse and IT technician at Springfield Hospital Center in Sykesville, Md. His dedication to caring for others and his innovative approach to technology earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and patients alike.
A man of deep faith and community spirit, Charlie was an active member of Crossroad Community Church. He also served on the board of the Central Delaware Blues Society, where he shared his passion for music as the newsletter chairperson. His contributions to the church and the local music community left a lasting impact.
When Charlie wasn’t working or serving others, he was most at home in the great outdoors. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and crabber, enjoying countless adventures with his friends and family. His love of travel took him to over 30 countries, with his most cherished memories made with his wife, Jo Ellen. Charlie’s favorite destination was New Orleans, where he reveled in the excitement of Mardi Gras celebrations.
Charlie is survived by his devoted wife, Jo Ellen; his son, Randy Haddaway Jr. (Tara) of Naples, Fla.; his daughter, Katie Smith of Spartanburg, S.C.; and eight adored grandchildren, Creed, Alex, Hunter, Lola, Cash, Lyla, Luke and Mark. He is also survived by his sister, Sherry Shuman of Dover.
Charlie’s infectious laughter, warm heart, and adventurous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his memorial service at 11 a.m., Thursday, March 27, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m.
