Charles Ross ‘CR’ Robinson Jr., enjoyed dirt track racing
Charles Ross “CR” Robinson Jr., 61, of Georgetown passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Sept. 4, 2021. CR was born June 5, 1960, to the late Charles Ross Robinson Sr. and Gladys Marie (Bunting) Robinson.
In 1996, CR established his own business, CR Robinson & Son Bobcat Service. He most recently worked for Stockley Materials in Georgetown and Nassau. CR took pride in any work that he completed and had great relationships with his customers. Although CR spent most of his working career as an equipment operator, his passion was racing. CR was a well-known driver in the local dirt-track racing community. He spent many years vying for the checkered flag at Georgetown Speedway and Delaware International Speedway. CR’s favorite races included the Camp Barnes Benefit and the Delaware State Fair races. CR’s son, Ross, followed his example at a very early age and currently races a Super Late Model (#7), locally and nationally. CR was Ross’s biggest fan and was certainly a very proud father.
In addition to his late parents, CR was preceded in death by his sister, Carol (Robinson) Evans; and four brothers, Norman “Boo Boo” Robinson, Donald “Duck” Robinson, Jimmy Robinson and George Ross Robinson.
CR is survived by his loving wife of nearly 38 years, Kim (Holston) Robinson; his son, Charles “Ross” Robinson III; daughter-in-law Amanda Robinson; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Pat and Harry Gordon; brothers Mark Robinson and Ronnie Robinson (Denise); sisters, Connie H. Pettyjohn and Olive J. Karr; sisters-in-law, Robyn Holston and Terry Robinson; cousin, Diane Fleetwood (Steve), as well as several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews. CR also leaves behind his special grand-dog, Beau.
A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. A time of visitation will begin at 11 a.m. All are encouraged to dress casually and wear their favorite racing shirt to honor CR and his love for racing.
