Clarence W. Joseph, loved auctioneering

Clarence Wesley Joseph, lovingly known as “C.J.”, 75, of Bear, passed away peacefully Monday, March 7, 2016, with his loving family by his side.

Born and raised in Rehoboth Beach, he was the son of the late Harold R. and Catherine E. (Wilson) Joseph.

C. J. was a graduate of Rehoboth High School Class of 1958, as well as Goldey Beacom College in 1960. He was a veteran of the Delaware National Guard. C.J. retired from the commercial mortgage department at Wilmington Trust, then he began the career he truly loved as an auctioneer.

C.J. was a huge NASCAR fan of Richard Petty and whoever drove the No 43  car. He volunteered at the Delaware Agricultural Museum in Dover, at their fundraising auctions. In his spare time, C. J. loved to buy, sell and peruse treasures at flea markets with his friend  Bill Freebery, as well as go to auctions. He was also an avid bowler and golfer.

C.J. is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years, Susan E. Joseph (Kugler); his daughters, Lucinda B. Joseph and Rebecca L. Joseph; his grandchildren, Makayla M. Joseph, Sarah E. and Norman N. VanScoy; his sister, Laura Hopkins (John); his nieces, Barbara Dennis (Woody), Dawn Crouch and Donna Gooner; as well as his sister-in-law, Linda J. Kugler. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister and brother-in-law, Ellen M. and John L. Brown.

A viewing will be held Monday, March 14, from 5 to 7 p.m., at Doherty Funeral Home, 3200 Limestone Rd., Wilmington. A Celebration of C.J.’s Life will be held Tuesday, March 15, at 11 a.m., at Doherty Funeral Home, where family and friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Interment will be held at Epworth Cemetery in Rehoboth Beach.

In lieu of flowers, a gift honoring the memory of Clarence Joseph can be made to Drexel University College of Medicine, Department of Cardiology. The Joseph Family would like to honor Dr. Howard Eisen and Dr. Slawomir Kusmirek; the doctors who gave them almost sixteen extra years together.
