Claudette Hitchens, loving mother, grandmother
Claudette Hitchens, 81, of Laurel, departed this life Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2024, at her residence. She was born in Quincy, Fla., daughter of the late Samuel Sanders and Lula Mae Glover Smith. Her husband, Rev. William A. Hitchens Sr., also preceded her in death.
Prior to retiring, she was an early childhood teacher at Shore Up Inc. in Cambridge, Md. She was also a secretary.
She will be lovingly remembered by one daughter, Claudelle Y. Hitchens; one son, Louis S. Hitchens (Lisa); one sister, Doris Campbell Wilson (Lamont); two stepsisters, Juanita Sanders and Sandra Sanders; two stepbrothers, Reggie Sanders (Sonya) and Ricky Sanders; 13 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, in-laws, and friends.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was also preceded in death by her daughter, Sheila Y. Holmes, son, Rev. William A. Hitchens Jr., and brother, Ceasar "Sonny" Campbell.
Claudette will lie in repose from 10 to 11 a.m., Saturday, Oct. 5, at Lewis N. Watson Funeral Home, 1618 West Road, Salisbury, Md. The funeral service will begin at 11 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Matthews First Baptist Church Cemetery, Laurel.
